Dance Scientist

     Ava Barron

During her training in Classical Ballet at the Northern Ballet School, Manchester Ava danced professionally with the Manchester City Ballet and Jazz Galore Companies. Following her graduation she took contracts with Opera International Company, Dolly Dollies and ATA Productions. Television and film credits include a number of roles in independent British films as well as dancing in several BBC programmes including the Christmas special 'A Question of Pop'. Winner of the L'Oreal 10^th anniversary 'Hair Idol' competition, Ava also has extensive modeling experience working for Toni and Guy, Jiggy Clothing, More magazine, Boots and London School of Fashion. Retiring from professional dance due to injury, Ava has completed the Focus Training and Assessment Certificate in Sports Injuries and graduated from Laban, London with an MSc in Dance Science. Along with presenting her own original scientific research she continues her career in dance science and medicine working on projects such as 'NRG' with Hampshire Dance, workshops with SinCru and Loop Dance and recently lecturing at Exeter University. Currently part of Dance UK'sHealthier Dancer Programme she provides advice as their resident Agony Aunt online as 'Ask Ava'. Ava has had several articles published by Dance UK, London Youth Dance and Equity in association with the British Fashion Council. She has compiled a series of freelance lectures to provide healthier dancer information to dancers and dance practitioners as well as continuing to enthuse others in the delight of ballet by providing private classical ballet tuition and repertoire in Devon and delivering the award winning babyballet programme to children 6 month-4 years.

Ava is a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and Dance UK. She is fully insured, licensed and enhanced CRB checked.
